Who invented slavery? What societies, where, and when?
I believe the answer is in the beginning ALL societies fell naturally into slave/owner relationships as a human condition. Every single ethnic group in the world has a period of slavery in the their beginning, and some still have it.
Now, who worked to end slavery? What societies, where, and when?
What societies still have slavery?

I would posit that all societies have slavery of one form or another, including today. Currently the leadership of the US is trying to toss all the illegal immigrants out, and so many of the sob stories are about how crops aren't getting picked, houses aren't getting built, and other low end labor isn't being done for illegally low wages. What could you consider that other than voluntary slavery? Yes, I realize that the slavery you're referring to is the chattel slavery of old, but the modern version is just as pernicious. Debt, taxes, and other pieces of modern life put us all in a form of slavery that's every bit as insidious as ancient times, with the exception that we can't be selectively beaten for disobedience. Kinder, gentler masters don't mean much if you're still a slave. Try not paying your taxes and see if that doesn't end up with things getting very master/slave quickly. Or perhaps I'm just feeling grumpy today.
'Voluntary Slavery' is an interesting concept and one I hadn't considered much. It's slavery light, and I agree with you.
