5.3 Trillion Dollars, over 3.6 billion dollars a day..... that's how much our national debt increased during the last two years. All of it under the gavel of Speaker Pelosi. The last speaker, Hastert, increased it over 3 trillion dollars, over a longer period if time.

Our national debt now stands at $14,014,049,043,294.41 (as of 1-4-11), and is rising at the rate of $500,000,000,000 a year right now.

Our national debt, right now, stands very nearly exactly the same as the Gross Domestic Product of the nation for 2010. Putting that in real human terms.... it is the equivalent of a family of four with a $50,000 a year income having $50,000 in unsecured credit card debt. That same family is still going deeper into debt, month after month.... with no end in sight.

There are 310 million people in the United States, give or take a few millions uncounted or illegal, but only 140 million people file tax returns. Of those. not all actually pay any taxes. That leaves the average debt burden on each tax payer as more than $100,000 right now.... and rising.

If the United States Government completely confiscated every penny of of the wealthiest American citizens... every last asset... it would not pay for just this years projected increase in the national debt.

The numbers are not real anymore, because they have left the realm of fiscal sanity. Our nation cannot pay this debt off, and remain the society we are now.

Period.
