Silver Sunday...........

This piece is heavy... very heavy... like a few ounces of silver. The stone is from Sunset beach on Cape May, and is hand picked and polished.

Having recently dropped off a large print to be custom framed, I had 'framing' on my mind. That's what I was thinking as I put this piece together. The stone is magenta turquoise, mounted on silver as a pendant.

They're both STUNNING! I've never heard of magenta turquoise; where does it come from? I know someone who wears a lot of violet, and I'd love to find a piece.

Magenta Turquoise is 'color enhanced' turquoise. Just another way of saying 'dyed stone'.

This is the only piece of dyed stone I have ever used in anything. I picked it up at a dealers only gem show.

Why? Because it's just so beautiful.

Wow.

I don't know what it is about Cape May that makes it so good for collecting beautiful stones and glass. Maybe because it's bank where the Gulf Stream hits North America and gets pushed eastwards ...

And I recall a business trip to Ft. Huachuca where I took a couple hours to shop in Bisbee for turquoise. Even only married a few years, I was smart enough to know not to come home empty handed.

The first piece I could take or leave, while the second one really is beautiful.

It looks a little like the lid of a coffin though...

On a technical note, can the thin chain reliably support that much weight?

The second piece began life as the bowl of a silver tablespoon. It's not as heavy as it looks, and I think the chain will be fine.
