How long should I wait?
Somebody here will know the answer to this question; How long should I let the mud set before I fire this thing off the first time? I would be nice if it wasn't raining every hour or two, every single day.....

I'd say 48 hours. Otherwise you risk cracking the underlay due to water expansion into steam.
