Harummph
Well, who woulda thunk it... life goes on. Gainfully employed or not.
Yesterday I received the mandatory phone call from Manager dude. "Checking on how you are doing hang in there we are all in this together, check.. check... check..."
Yeah bud, thanks for calling. Let me know if there's any good news. Thanks for calling, and also thanks for reminding me my relationship with the school is strictly business. I've always known it as such, but the Admin loves them that team building stuff, couldn't do this without you great people, aint we just a big family.... until push comes to shove and the illusion washes away.
I was out riding at the time, but when I got home I took a moment to wipe calendar events, meetings, and rearrange my laptop desktop into a non-work space. Not too much later, an angel dropped off a few weeks worth of bootleg Bourbon, Goober Wolf still having not detangling his state store ratfuck.
Today marks my first day unemployed in.... 20 years? I'm really not sure. I mean, I remember those couple months while I waited between doing the 'Emergency Substitute' thing and the public school hiring me officially. Seems like a lifetime ago.
Something I should say, because it needs saying. I'm not alone in this mess, and I mean me personally. I'm lucky enough to have a good woman standing by me, and for all our mutual faults it's a damn good team. Really not sure where I'd be without her.
Anywho, the coffee still tastes wonderful, and the scrapple is as satisfying as ever. Who knew unemployed bums had it so good?
Today we will blow this Popsicle stand and go deliver lunch to Mike the Railroad Man down in Stewartstown. Shutdown or not, he's voluntarily slaving away on the rail cars, so a nice lunch will be nice. Also a good three hour ride for us, out of the house for reals. Hell, I might put fuel in my car.... first time in forever.
Lately I've been getting about a week to the gallon.
After that? Who knows. Our time is free, and obligations are few.
