I stopped walking to take this picture of a sign.

"Why take a picture of the sign?" she asked.

"So I can show people I walked 10 miles today"  I replied.

"No you didn't.  It's like a quarter of a mile from where we started!" she said.

"Well, I have this government installed sign that says 10 miles, so I'm going with it!"  was my final word.

The moral of the story; A single data point is all but useless, no matter how important it looks or how much you want it to mean something.

A sign saying '10 mile' means nothing by itself.  It's needs reference to have meaning.  Context. Perspective.   Just so, a single data point on most any topic one can name is a meaningless thing without reference, context, and perspective.

Beware the lonely data... it can bite you right in the intelligence.
