PA's state senate has voted to subpoena Governor Wolf regarding his live or die decisions on business's in the state.
While mostly along partisan lines, even Wolf's fellow party members are questioning how this was done. Government representatives down to County and Township level have been responding to their constituents and requesting Wolf explain how he chose which business's would survive under his closure edicts, and which wouldn't.
To date, Wolf's waiver process has every appearance of being arbitrary and capricious, a method of governance already found actionable by the Supreme Court. Now, there is suspicion of something darker, as some business owners see their lives circling the drain, while their competitors have been granted waivers and are surviving the situation.
PA's auditor general has announced he's looking into the process Wolf used in choosing which business's would survive, as well.
"The question we need to find out is could more businesses have been
open in light of also staying safe?” DePasquale, a Democrat, said during
a Thursday morning news conference. “And was this done in a fair
process?”
The Wolf administration has been defending their process, but from a position of darkness. They refuse to respond to any 'Right To Know' requests at all, something that in itself seems to be provoking people to consider the worst motives.
Business owners have had enough of watching their life's work vanish before their eyes, totally without explanation, justification, or even rationalization. They've come together and petitioned the Supreme Court to consider if Wolf has the authority he's assumed to himself. The Supreme Court has responded, and is telling Wolf he'll have to defend his actions. To my knowledge, this is unprecedented, and if it moves forward will likely effect the authority of every governor in the nation.
I'm watching this one as closely as I can, both because I live in this state and work for one of those closed business's, but also because this may turn out to be a pivotal issue arising from recent government actions.... and over-reach.
