After two+ months of triples and quads, I folded from a physical issue. I knew one of us would pop, but I didn't expect it to be me.
A triple is 11 hours of work, and three classes.
A quad is 14 hours, 4 classes, from 6am til 9pm. I was on the last week of the latest quad. Nobody WANTS to do them, but it was me or that other guy, and he got taken out in an ambulance a while back. I figured I needed to step up and cover this.
My blood pressure has been creeping up. It was high before, but now it was going higher. The doc went to 1.5x my usual med, then last week to a double dose daily. Along with that, Herself bought me an electronic wrist cuff to take to the hotel with me while I worked.
Monday I worked my quad, hit the hotel, and my now normal 24/7 headache was worse. I checked the BP, and it was high. 200/100 high. Ugh. Took aspirin and went to bed.
Tuesday 3 am, still with the headache. 250 something over 220 something. FUCK. Blew my nose, and had blood trace.
Meds, warm shower, sit up for a bit.... got it down to 200/100, and had to make a hard decision. I drove into work, caught a manager as he arrived, and told him the situation. Understood. Back to the hotel, pack up, and head home.
Caved.
Seen by the Doc yesterday, and I avoided being hospitalized, mostly through whining and arguing. Halve the old med, add a new one, and checked the accuracy of that cuff while I was there. Matched against the docs non-toy model, that ^$^$%@ wrist cuff was almost 40 points off. It was consistent, but consistently wrong. All over the map, which the doc said is not unusual for them.
No matter, still in the danger zone.
Still high last night, and this morning. Doubled the new med as per Doc. This works.... or I end up in the hospital where I have no idea what they do for this. Pretty sure just walking into that den of death will give me a 20 point rise all on it's own.
Home, sitting, I researched my options. Turns out our manual setup at home was wrong for me as well. I ordered the correct tool for the job, and it will be here Saturday.
I'm hoping to be back Monday for three days of triple, Thanksgiving break, then two weeks of regular two classes.
Hoping. I even stopped drinking for the time being. Hope being alive is worth that.
Update.... I hate sitting around, unless it was my choice. Being told to sit around? GRRRrrrr.
From two Monsters and a pot of coffee a day, to a couple cups this morning. From quite a bit of decent whiskey each day, to none right now. Payoff... pressure seems to be down. Headaches are now light, random, and seem more like simple sinus affairs since I'm off antihistamines for a while too. The bogus cuff says pressure is down, but no idea what that's worth.
So far today, I cleaned the chimney and the fish tank, ate a sammich, and napped a bit. Feels like I'm failing life like a worthless bum.
Someone else is teaching my classes!
Ugh.
