Really hoping I nailed that window correctly...
(Update: Now marked shipped. Cool!)
I've been hoping to do some groundhog shooting this year, now that I have been forced to retire and take it easy. There's a local farmer who's fairly pleased with the idea, I think, and it will be good exercise for me. Well, assuming I don't drop dead in the field.... but who knows?
Towards that end, I've been jonesing for .17hmr with a decent scope. I gave away my last one, doubting I'd ever be back in the chuck fields with my work schedule. Huh.... whoda thunkit?
With the current market, what was once an easy slam dunk is now a mess. I easily found 600 rounds of .17hmr to stock away, and the optics and such are still easy. The rifle itself? Not so much.
I saw one Savage A-17 in a custom stock, but it vanished from store racks overnight while I was deciding. I also located a decent Tika that fits the bill... except for being a lefty.
I had several shops keeping an eye out. .17 hmr, bolty, heavy barrel, threaded muzzle (yeah, probably going to suppress this thing). I looked at Bud's a few times a day, and GB for anything in driving distance. No joy.
Till this afternoon, when a slightly different search on Bud's brought up this Savage 93R17 Minimalist rifle, which ticks every box. My last .17 was a Savage on the same action and barrel, and it was a deadly tack driver.
Yup, I jumped with two feet. Nearly sprained my wrist whipping out that debit card. Ten minutes later, I have an email from Bud's saying my order was with the shipping gods.... whewww!
Yeah, but now I check the site, and it says 'Out of Stock'. MAN I hope that went up because *I* bought the one they had!
If my order gets bounced, in a few days I'll be left holding a fancy scope and 600 rounds of ammo.... hunting a rifle to match them with.
