Gobsmacked....

In a bold, but highly predictable move, the Biden administration has teamed with local authorities to punish the victims of incredibly bad port management and government regulations with daily fines for doing business with California ports.

I've been researching the complicated shipping mess in California as best I can, but every thread hanging from the knot only reveals more and more stupidity, corruption, and blind authoritarianism.

To be blunt, NO ONE INVOLVED is without blame in this situation.   The most important lesson to be learned is never, EVER, allow commerce important to the nation to come under the power of  the corruptocrat psychos in California.

"Starting Monday, the ports will bill carriers $100 per day for each container that remains on the dock for more than three days, if slated to move by rail, or nine days for truck-bound cargo. Those per-container fees will increase in $100 increments for each day of additional delay, the ports said.

John Porcari, the administration’s port envoy, who helped develop the initiative, said it would reduce port congestion. But some retailers fear they will get stuck with the tab.

The “decision to apply new surcharges does not resolve our ever-worsening supply chain crisis and we fear carriers will see this as another opportunity to stick shippers with the bill on top of already massive freight costs,” said Stephen Lamar, president of the American Apparel and Footwear Association."

The typical "Soviet" solution that foists the extracosts onto the peasants/workers/suckers at the bottom of the pile. The Corruptocrats closed down businesses and paid some people not to work (welfare, special unemployment) thus compressing an already marginal system. Now they charge extra during the reopening surge thus dunning the suckers for the situation that they caused. Wonderful!
