Thoughts on writing

Thoughts on writing, which I expect I'm subconsciously stealing from real writers.

* There is no such thing as a 'final draft'. There is only the latest draft. For certain as soon as I mark something 'final' I'll read it again and change a dozen words.

* Words are like food. Some belong in the meal, and some don't. No matter how much we dearly love smoked herring, it just doesn't belong in a banana split. We have to look past our word-lust and check for fit.

*More can be better, but less is often the best. Good luck figuring out when.
