Repair or repurpose?

I made this piece years ago.  It involved melting a mass of silver and pouring it on cool steel over and over till I got something I wanted to work with.

Nowadays, Carolyn somehow seems to pair this thing with certain outfits and get rave reviews from coworkers. 

A small mounting has finally given way, and the piece needs some repair and refinement.

I'm for repurposing the silver, but she won't hear of it.  She wants it repaired and back in her jewelry collection.
