Chilly dawn. The fire and coffee are welcome this morning.

I like to grind and brew coffee each morning. It really is better that way, and becomes a willful waking morning ritual. Firewood, on the other hand, is more satisfying when one thinks ahead and prepares the stack a day, or week, or month before. It feels like accomplishment. A very small, but incredibly meaningful push back against a universe that would see us destroyed.
We are flush on pantry here at the castle, but I still hit those holiday food bargains as I can. Today I will pick up a grocery order at the local FoodMart. It says my bill is
$142.68, and I saved $132.00. I know that 'saved' number is BS, and I can 'Save' $140 by not going at all. But, hey... I almost went square on that grocery bill!
Oh, and they had 40lb sacks of water softener salt for $1.75 each. I bought them. All of them.
I lazied out on this mornings breakfast. Spiced tater tots and a broccoli and cheddar frittata. All in the oven and all nearly hands-off prep.
I cleaned out the ashes from the woodstove this morning, as one does, and heard my planting beds whispering to me. "May we have some more please sir?" like deprived Dickens waifs.
If plant beds could be spoiled, then mine are.
