Can you navigate a long trip with only a paper map and a compass?
When is the last time you did so?
Do you have in your hot little hands enough paper maps and a compass to do so now?
My answers:
Yes, 20 years or so, Maybe.
My knee jerk is to fix that for certain. Then common sense chimes in with "What are the odds YOU will ever need to do a cross-country with nothing but a map... again? What chance is there a Topo map means going home instead of sleeping under a tree... again?"
The fact is, very low indeed. I am feeling my mortality today.
My contemplative thought over a glass of mediocre whisky is I've probably already done my last hiking/hunting trip, my last nationwide road trip, and my last speed run down the coast.
The boys on Grand Tour were right. We, at any time, may be doing what we are doing for the very last time.
