Croque Monsieur (Mister Crunch) is a French classic sandwich that takes WAY too much effort but really is quite good. It consists of fancy bread, ham and cheese, and cheese sauce assembled in a complicated manner. I understand one must curse in French to get it right, and eventually surrender (another French word).
This Christmas morning I created 'Croque 'Murican' for the family. Half a toasted bagel, schmeared with homemade bacon jam, slathered with cheddar sauce, several slices of super crispy bacon installed, more cheddar sauce, a sunny side egg, and MORE cheddar sauce with a pinch of even MORE shredded cheddar on top. Fresh ground black pepper throughout of course, and the whole thing slid under the broiler till things bubble.
Voila! The Croque 'Murican!
