Healthy food pron: Irish Steel Cut Oatmeal



Irish Oatmeal.... the steel cut kind. First, toasted in a hot pan till it fills the kitchen with a wonderful nutty perfume, and then simmered slowly for an hour. A pinch of kosher salt in the water, a sprinkle of strong cinnamon, and some cream to make it.... creamier.

After it cooks to perfection... just chewy, but creamy and rich... stir in clover honey to taste. Just a little sweet to the tongue. Heap it into a dish, sprinkle with more cinnamon, and add a little cream that's been blessed with a touch of vanilla.

Hmmm...... old word rich breakfast goodness, and almost healthy too!

Damn! Beats Raisin Bran & grapefruit juice, which is what I had.
Just leaves it choking on its dust...Throw in some minced apples: Instant health food!

I was raised on oatmeal. Still eat it sometimes. I'll have to try it like yours, sounds great.
