Binary explosives......

Will make fine targets even in pill bottle sized containers.....

Can be set off with a .17 HMR rifle.....

It has been an interesting afternoon.

This 'target' is made by an outfit named Shockwave. Their web site is:

The store clerk knew what the instructions said, and no more. I wanted to know if it would work in smaller amounts, and with a .17 rimfire. The answer is yes on both counts. I figured $8 was worth the fun of finding out.

It worked fine when presented in a capped pill bottle, and hit squarely with the .17hmr. A glancing or off center hit won't do it. I suspect an end-on hit on the bottle would be better yet.

I'll be buying a handful more of these tomorrow. In the Spring I wish to have an 'ATF' party, with several new shooters attending. It would be a joy to give them such a fun introduction to shooting a rifle. Almost no recoil, not much muzzle blast, and a helluva reactive target.; January 8, 2012 at 6:01 PM

Interestingly, their site specifies .223 as the minimum effective cartridge, but then says "rounds exceeding 2200fps" ... which HMR does, quite handily.

I have this philosophy.... All humans are faced with a choice.

They can become students of human nature, trying to recognize the good and bad within themselves... or they can choose to ignore human nature, and act simply on drives, desires, and instincts. The former is what sets mankind aside from animals, and the latter is to act as an animal.

Making the first choice is harder, more complicated, and creates a difficult path to follow... for it's the basis of knowing right from wrong. There are those who study human nature, and themselves, and actively try to better themselves and do what is right. There are others... people who study human nature, note the flaws inherent to the unthinking herd, and use them as a means to control.

There is no danger greater than the refusal to see, and to think. Doing so leaves one a pawn to anyone awake, aware, and driven to power over others.
