Comfort food.....

For various reasons sleep eluded yours truly last night, mostly.  I did nod off around 4am-ish, to wake far past mid morning.  So very unusual for me not to be eyes-open at 6am...

That means an early lunch is really brekkie, and I reverted to one of the basest breakfast comfort food there is....   Oatmeal.

Not just any oatmeal for such a longing; only steel cut Irish oats will do.  Long cooked, with raisins, and a little brown sugar and cream once it's done.

Cheap man chow, but the perfect eats for this morning.

Unless you don't like them, try dried cranberries in your steel cut oatmeal some time.

An alternate to the brown sugar, is the unrefined (or turbinado) sugar.

I also like to sometimes put chopped up dried apricots in mine.

I've substituted about a tablespoon of agave syrup for the sugar a time or two as well.

Just playing with the flavor profile somewhat.

But nothing beats brown sugar and cream.

I'm sorry, I just can't do oatmeal... Too many years of it being screwed up by military chow halls...
