When I make Herself the foods, I always try to make it special in some way. Flavor that sings, maybe dress it up, or maybe both.
Here we have straight up comfort food on this cold and dreary day. Grilled cheese and tomato soup.
The soup is composed of a can of Campbells (because) and half a can of diced tomatoes barely drained. Added in are about 8 ounces of heavy cream, two tablespoons of melted butter, fresh black pepper, dried thyme, and dried parsley. Sweet cherry tomatoes were halved and gently floated as a garnish.
The grilled cheese used Italian bread spread with melted butter, a schmear of spicy onion-bacon jam, white cheddar, and cheddar jack cheese. As it cooked, both sides got a grind of fresh pepper.
Plated with a nice crispy dill pickle.
Why?
Because it's Valentines day, #355.
You see, I don't believe in Valentines day. Not as such. What I believe in is making my woman feel like every day has a little Valentines day in it.
Valentines day is about making an extra effort to help your loved one feel loved. Why in the world wouldn't you do that every singe day if you can?
If it's just something small, like the times she comes downstairs to find her coffee the way she likes it, in her favorite mug, waiting for her... why not? Maybe it's the breakfast of warm fruit, homemade yogurt, a drizzle of honey, and a dust of cinnamon. How hard is that? Perhaps it's in the listening to her, and actually valuing her opinion when she shares it. It could be as simple a letting the petty stuff go and reinforcing the victories no matter how small.
A card.... yeah, I may give her a card. It will say 'Open every day for a fresh Valentines gift'.
