You see, I heat our home with renewable resources as much as possible. That means firewood to you Big Blue city people. For some folks, that means buying commercial fire $tarters, and that's just fine. I'm not some kind of Statist demanding people spend their bucks as I wish. Me, I choose another path. The frugal path.
A store brand sandwich baggie (2 cents each) with a tuft of drier lint (free) stuffed into it. Pour in an ounce of cheap cooking oil (8 cents). Let it sit while you grab some wood for the stove.
Bam! That's it! a 10 cent fire starter that works 100% of the time. Just make an open stack with one of these in the middle and light it. 5 minutes later it will be ablaze. I can easily light the fire daily for a month for $5.
