Right around Thanksgiving I got a 'free' turkey from the grocery store we patronize. Okay.... free as in swap 400 loyalty points for it. 400 points I'd normally use in fuel discount at 40 cents per gallon, so around $6-7 in value.
I got a 22 pound frozen turkey for $7.00. Once thawed (4 days) it went straight into a 350 oven till the meat thermometer BEEPed.
Stock cooling out in the big fridge.
What did we get from that turkey?
- Three meals of fresh roasted turkey meat (still need to make one more).
- Three quarts of canned turkey meat, each an easy and tasty meal in the making.
- Nine quarts of premium turkey stock, made with veg scraps, carcass, skin, and bones.
Even the scraps leftover from the scraps went to the chickens, who will give us tasty eggs in return.
For my next trick, a 'free' 20 pound ham!
