So, there I wuz.....

No idea why this memory just popped up.

It was time to go, and I was ready.  The job was okay but the compensation just didn't cut it.  It wasn't getting any better, so the choice was deal with it or find greener pastures.  That was the only choice the shop owner left us.

So I did.

The moment I gave him notice, he offered to match the new employers money.  I said thanks, but no.  He countered with a something a little higher, and that's when it clicked.

"You think I'm worth that much?" I asked.

"I'll pay that to keep you here" he said.

"When did I become worth that, and why haven't you been paying me what I'm worth?"  I said it loud enough I suspect everyone else heard it too.

He had nothing to say after that.

It is not just the lack of money, but the lack of respect as well.

Been there done that, most business owners start worshipping their wallet at some point. After that it's all downhill in the employee/employer relationship.
