Alas New York, you were once a giant....

1977 New York blackout
New York city has set a new record.  For the first time in history the city had intentional rolling blackouts simply because there is not enough electricity to run the whole city.

New York state has lost 1.5 gigawatts of generation, mostly due to the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act rammed through by the party running the state for the last 50 years.  This act banned new fossil fuel plants and dumped enough regulation on existing plants that they are slowly packing it up as a lost cause.

Nuckular?  Oh, how I laugh.  That starts with NO and goes downhill from there.  The state had five clean and safe nuclear generation plants.  One never even started due to unending lawfare.  Another, operating without flaw since the 1960's was recently shut down.  25% of NYC's lost electrical generation comes from just one shuttered nuclear plant.

NYC, and New York state, have no prospect ahead but a downwards spiral.  They can't even keep the lights on anymore.
